Joining in for MSF

I don’t usually watch the news. I get my news online, on the radio, and (hangs head) Facebook and Twitter. TV news just isn’t on my radar, because I barely have time to watch TV as it is. Anything important I presume I’ve heard in the car on the way home.

But somehow this week I’ve ended up watching real time TV every evening and I’ve seen some of the footage from the Philippines… And I’ve gone to bed sad, my mind going overtime, and desperately wanting to hug my children. We are just so lucky to have what we do, and to live somewhere where we’re not likely to be impacted by weather like this.

So to jump on a bandwagon, any pattern sales for my Daisy Chains Cardigan for November (including sales to date) will go  to Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders.  And I’ll put 10% of November’s Dublin Dye sales to it too. I’m not big, it won’t be thousands, but if it gets help to someone who needs it?

Irish Yarn Club

It’s here! It’s here!

This is what I’ve been waiting for…  Carol Feller has announced the Irish Yarn Club!  Carol is going to design patterns using three Irish hand dyer’s yarns.  And guess who’s doing the dyeing?!  Well… Hedgehog Fibres from Cork, and Coolree from Wexford, and ME!

Yes, Dublin Dye will be doing one of the yarns.  Carol already has a skein and is cooking up something brilliant to go with it.  So go, check it out at This is Knit. You know you it’s going to be great!

Bricks and Mortar

Dublin Dye Company started above This is Knit in Blackrock, and although they’ve moved, we’re still big fans of theirs.  Not only because they’re the exclusive bricks and mortar stockist of our yarn, but they’re also lovely people.

All these lovely skeins (I promise they’re lovely, despite my lack of decent camera or photography skills) will be making their way into This is Knit in the next 24 hours.  Hopefully they find themselves some happy homes from there.

Don’t forget the Etsy sale until the end of the month! WELCOMEBACK will get you a 15% discount.

Shop Update

yarns 071013

Here they are, some of the new yarns!  A little bit of everything has been included – Merino and Twinkle Toes sock yarns, Alpaca and Merino in lace.  I have to admit there are a few of these I will be sad to part with.

Since it’s been so long since the last shop update, I thought a little sale might be in order.  Use the code ‘WELCOMEBACK’ on checkout and you will recieve a 15% discount!  The sale will run until the end of the month.

The story so far…

Dublin Dye has been around since 2007, dyeing yarn for fun and sometimes for profit.  We started above This is Knit’s Blackrock shop, doing some yarn and some classes, but mostly having fun.  When This is Knit moved to Dublin, Dublin Dye moved the other direction to Dun Laoghaire.

lots of yarn

A few years passed. We enjoyed doing dyeing when time and life permitted.  But then life took over in a big way, and myself and Elana had to leave Dublin Dye to it’s own devices.  Since then, there’s been two births, one death and a transatlantic move.  Busy times, to say the least.

Now Dublin Dye has been reduced to one, but I am enthusiastic about getting back to the dye studio.  Over the last few months there has been a lot of thinking about what to do with Dublin Dye and how.  Now is the time to start putting plans into action, and that starts with going back to dyeing yarn!

Elana is still in the background, keeping an eye from the US.  And I’ll still have the occasional ‘guest dyer’ in to help out.  So watch out for new colours in our Etsy shop and at This is Knit in the near future. And keep an eye here and on Twitter, as we’ve got a some interesting projects in the works…
